Queenstown, NZ - 5 must-do’s!

5 Must Dos In Queenstown, New Zealand to follow! Just keep scrolling!

Who has been to Queenstown, New Zealand? If I had 10 hands, I’d have to raise them all because I’m a bit of Queenstown addict! There is so much to do in Queenstown so I have decided to compile a quick list of 5 must do’s in Queenstown, NZ – the adventure capital of the world!

Since COVID hit, we have all been confined to our won countries, cities and truthfully homes. I feel so grateful to have been ‘stuck’ in New Zealand. Having a less severe COVID situation we have been able to explore more of the country, what I like to call home sightseeing. To be completely honest, I was never a huge fan of New Zealand. Anyone I used to say that to would throw their arms up in disbelief and wonder why! But, I thought it was boring, small and uneventful. But isn’t that what a lot of people think about things they think they know but truthfully don’t? Supposedly you’ve done everything there is to do, and that there is nothing else to do.

To be fair, the thrill of stepping on a plane to explore an international location is always exhilarating! But it took me until I couldn’t travel internationally to appreciate New Zealand to its fullest, and I think it’s important to admit and come to terms with that!

So, what are the things that I have discovered that I love about New Zealand? Well, for one, the coffee is good pretty much anywhere you go! That’s definitely an important factor to aid those early morning flights and constant adventures. Another thing is the people, everyone has a story to share and advice from locals is pretty valuable! I also can’t deny that the rugged coastal landscapes and lush forests are a personal highlight and something you just can’t miss! New Zealand’s flora and landscapes tend to remind me of a lot of other places around the world. Namely, Hawaii, which is probably my all-time favorite place ever!

With Queenstown being the adventure capital of the world, it pretty much has everything I love about New Zealand encapsulated in one place! For one the landscapes are unmatched. With the city center laying on the beautiful Lake Wakatipu – which I can attest, is not an eyesore! Queenstown is also a cultural hub, it’s easy to meet people from all over the world, most people are friendly and don’t have a problem with sharing insight or helping you out! Although I do appreciate exploring ‘touristy locations, I also love to find hidden spots and gems – well, don’t we all? Locals can definitely come in handy here, lucky you have me for this insight!

So, without further adieu, here is my list of the 5 Must Do’s in Queenstown, New Zealand!.

  1. Perky’s Floating Bar

So we all know that Queenstown has a lot of good wine and food. Why not elope the two and celebrate them Queenstown style by enjoying them on Perky’s floating bar! This bar is permanently moored on Lake Wakatipu. and invites customers year-round to enjoy a local drink. Oh, and the best part is it brings your own food! So while you enjoy a Queenstown mulled wine in the winter or a glass of fresh Rosé in the winter, bring along some specialty cheese, a burger, or just a few bar snacks of choice!

2. Arrowtown

Arrowtown is a cult classic spot to visit in Queenstown – this old mining town made its name from the gold rush for its bounty of special finds! In Arrowtown, if you are feeling lucky you can try your hand at panning for gold and exploring the local streams, you might just find a speck or a nugget! If you’d rather have someone else put the effort in, you can visit the gold shops around and purchase one for yourself! Perhaps though you may just feel like exploring? The quaint town is beautifully laid out for exploring the shops, cafes, bars, and bistros. Try out some locally produced cheese and of course wine to accompany it.

3. Bobs Cove

Bob’s Cove is located just outside of Queenstown in the direction of Glenorchy. This hidden gem is nestle ed behind the rugged coastal drive and 15 minute walk to the beautiful boardwalk we explored. Bob’s Cove stands out due to its deep blue waters, pebble shore, and rustic boardwalk perfect for a picnic. This is certainly a perfect place to bring a few friends for some local drinks, food, and a good time!

4. Shotover Canyon

The Shotover Canyon area is a gorgeous amalgamation of adventure, beauty, and relaxation. With a choice that suits everyone, you can visit and relax at the Canyon Brewing Company by enjoying a nice local beer or wine, or perhaps you’d rather satisfy the adrenaline junky inside you and ride the Shotover Jet. Both experiences I’d recommend. Moreover, remember your trip by taking photos by the Shotover bridge which is iconic in itself! Ps, Canyon Brewing is dog-friendly!

5. Onsen Hot Pools

This is perhaps the most touristy option on the list, however completely unmissable if you are planning a trip to this beautiful city! Relax for an hour in a rustic barrel-designed hot tub while enjoying local drinks and an insane view! Looking over the Shotover River, watch the jet boats flying around the corner below while you relax in serenity (don’t worry, it’s not noisy!). Relaxing music is accompanied by your choice of drink is never a bad idea. Plus, a free shuttle transport from the heart of the city makes it easy to get to and from the location and allows you to safely enjoy a drink of choice.
