Finding NZ’s Best Autumn Colours

Who else is a sucker for the beautiful colours that fall gives to us?! The transition from summer to fall isn’t always so fun, but once the colours come out, I feel as though I never want to go inside!

I’ve decided to compile a list of some of the BEST spots to find incredible Autumn colours in New Zealand. PSA some of the content is mine and others are from other creators - I have credited them where needed!

Autumn in New Zealand runs from April - May, temperatures range from anywhere in the mid 20s to around 10 degrees celsius, but this really does depend on where in the country you are. Often the more south you’ll be experiencing temperatures on the lower end of the scale, especially as you approach the end of May. Lucky for us, Autumn tends to come just before the rainy season which is June/July. Often you’ll be able to explore the beautiful colours on a lovely crisp day and therefore appreciate them in all their true glory!

To not get carried away talking (which is very easy) I’m going to start the list I’ve compiled: Finding NZ’s Best Autumn Colours.

  1. Cornwall Park - Auckland

Cornwall Park is a beautiful oasis located in the heart of Auckland. Being one of Auckland's largest parks you’ll be entertained for hours taking photos amongst the beautiful colors. Moreover, Cornwall Park is always bustling with activity, whether there are events, music of people, it’s perfect for the family!

2. Maple Grove - Rotorua

Rotorua is approximately 3 hours south of Auckland and definitely one of NZ’s most unique cities. With a reputation for their insane geothermal activity there is something here for everyone. But if you are fall colour hunting, I’d look no further than Maple Grove.

3. McLaren Falls Park, Bay of Plenty

If I could describe McClaren Falls Park in one way it would be “breath-taking”. Aside from feeling like you’re walking through a renaissance painting McClaren Falls has is absolutely huge, you won’t be short of places to explore. I’d definitely recommend staying for a few hours finding your favorite spots, having a picnic or enjoying a nice cup of coffee at the cafe!

4. Arrowtown, Otago Region

One place for Autumn colors I’d never miss on my list is Arrowtown. Located approximately 10 minutes outside of Queenstown City centre this famous old mining village will take your breath away. Aside from beautiful golden hues, here you can also find an array of shops, bars, and restaurants to explore after your photoshoot!
