Luxury Hotel Review - Hotel St Moritz

Travel for me means to explore, absorb new cultures and I shamelessly admit, stay in beautiful hotels. I’ve been lucky enough to stay with the wonderful Hotel St Moritz on several occasions and I am now excited to share with YOU why it is the BEST hotel to stay at while you vacay in Queenstown.

Queenstown and Travel Planning

Queenstown is a destination hot spot for both New Zealanders and foreigners. Undistrupted views accompanied by incredible mountains, skiing, watersports, thrill-seeking, and more - it truly is both the adventurous and relaxers paradise.

One thing that takes time out of my travel planning is deciding on the perfect place to stay! I’m personally looking for the best quality of stay in terms of service, food, location, and rooms. Being a student I can’t say my budget is huge, but I’m willing to pay a little bit extra here and there to discover the best spots to share with the rest of the world. Not only this but I am a sucker for coming ‘home’ to a beautiful hotel embraced by panache, elegance, and tranquility, I mean who wouldn’t want that after a full day of walking, exploring, and general travel? These are some of the best descriptors that encompass my stay at the Hotel St Moritz in Queenstown.

Exploring Central Otago

Location

The Hotel St Moritz is located in Queenstown Town adjacent to Steamers Wharf, a stone’s throw away from all the restaurants, shops and activities making it one of the best-located spots in town. Found on 10/18 Brunswick St, upon arrival you’ll make your way up a slight hill where the hotel is perched and awaiting your arrival. COVID-19 protocols in place currently in New Zealand under threat level red mean that the ‘welcome/valet service’ is unavailable, however, this does not distract from the beautiful stone-clad entrance.

Arrival and Check In

As you pull up and unload your luggage the staff meet you at the front door - PSA, if you are in New Zealand government mandates, require you to ‘sign in’ via the COVID-19 Tracer App, present your vaccine pass and wear a mask in public areas. This consideration of safety was apparent at first glance, it made me feel incredibly safe as traveling during these times can be worrisome, to say the least.

As you meet the concierge at the door, you’ll be escorted to the check-in desk where the same check-in protocol occurs as most other hotels. The difference here is the relaxing atmosphere encompassed by tranquil music, mood, and interior - the only thing you need after a busy day of travel. The friendly staff provides you with your room key, WiFi passwords, and directions to find your room. As a relatively small hotel finding your room is not difficult! Moreover, the staff is willing to take your bags to your room upon request.

Rooms/Stay

I stayed in the beautiful One Bedroom Alpine Suite Lake View with Balcony, this suite accompanied by a small kitchenette, living space, bedroom, and bathroom. Beautifully decorated, clean, spacious, and welcoming are some of the best ways to describe my initial impressions of my room. Evidence that the tranquility of my first impression of the hotel emulates beyond just the lobby. Something that is special about Queenstown is the panoramic mountainous views that embrace your eyes. A little balcony was one of my favorite features of this room - a place where I could enjoy the fresh morning air, watch the town bustle, and to my surprise not be bothered by the traffic coming in and out of town. This is a big positive to its slightly arduous location of being up a hill.

Every day our room would be re-made up perfectly through the in-house cleaning service, this is optional however depending on whether you want it or not. Top-ups of amenities such as clean drinking water, glasses, toiletries, coffee, clean sheets, and towels were always provided making it a stress-free, easy stay. Moreover, turn-down service leaves you with a lovely chocolate kiss awaiting your tastebuds and a pillow menu to make your sleep the most comfortable it can be. Small extra things such as heating/air conditioning is available as well. Check out more amenities and information on rooms here.

Offers and Amenities

Rose Bath

One thing you must not miss during your stay at the Hotel St Moritz is the wonderful flower and wine bath. After a long day of exploring my favorite way to relax is treating my body to some self-care. Hotel St Moritz knows exactly what this means! Book in advance your stunning rose bath where you can soak in the comfort of your own bathroom in rose petal-infused water. To top off this relaxing self-care offer you’ll be provided with a glass of local wine to truly put your body and mind at peace.

Spa Pool Garden

Located towards the bottom of the Hotel St Moritz, you can treat your body to another therapeutic relaxation experience in the in-house jacuzzis. Tucked away in a secluded part of the garden away from public eyes you can sit and enjoy the views of Cecil and Walter Peak truly the perfect spot to unwind anytime throughout the year. As you enter the spa area you’ll be able to pick up a towel for yourself from the cabinet just before the entrance gate to keep your in-room towels clean and ready for a shower when you return.

Lombardi Restaurant/Bar

The Hotel St Mortiz offers an optional continental breakfast for guests at the Lombardi Dining Room, this included a buffet-style area where you can pick yourself mainly bread, cereals, yogurts, fruits & deli items. If you are feeling more of a cooked breakfast you can select a chef-made meal on the menu provided - along with optional barista-made coffee at an extra cost. There is free coffee also available near the other assortments of drinks including waters, teas, juices, etc. I usually treated myself to a nice chef-made cooked breakfast, opting for the classic avocado on toast I knew I had made the correct decision. My partner chose the big breakfast style meal which indeed looked delicious and I can attest was filling!

In the evening we popped down to Lombardi Bar for a few drinks at happy hour, on the menu you will find a variety of bar snacks, wines, beers, cocktails, and other local alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. I thoroughly enjoyed my cocktail and would definitely recommend heading here for sunset drinks! Dinner is also available at Lombardi, definitely another place I’d recommend eating at.

Car Parking

For an extra fee per night there is optional car parking located ust below the hotel. From the drive in entrance of the hotel you’ll simply continue driving bearing a slight left and down the ramp into the underground garage. Ample parking means that there is enough for all guests and you will not have to worry about finding a park for the duration of your stay. Easy access in the form of a door leading to an elevator then brings you directly back to the main hotel where you can make moves from.

Gift Shop

Here you can find a variety of items that you would have had the pleasure using throughout your stay. The Hotel St Moritz is now one of Queenstown’s only sellers of the wonderful ‘nutricosmetics’ range by the Grown Alchemist. From hair cleansing to body cleansing this range of plant based, organic, toxic free and cruelty free products are definitely worth checking out and incorporating into your daily routine.

Final Thoughts

I wanted to take a quick moment to thank the Hotel St Moritz for providing such an elevated experience, the level of professionalism displayed at all times was impressive and quite frankly comforting when being away from home. I would absolutely recommend your next stay in Queenstown to be with the 5 Star Hotel St Moritz!
